Never Just

The "Never Just" problem is when someone trying to help says "Why don't you just..." and suggests what seems like an obvious solution to a complex problem.

The person asking for help has usually already spent hours digging deep into all the messy complications, constraints, and roadblocks that make the "simple" solution impossible - like legacy code, business requirements, or technical debt.

When you say "just do X," you're basically dismissing all their expertise and hard work by assuming they never thought of the obvious answer, when the reality is they've already tried it and hit walls you can't see from the outside.
