CleanYourTV
CleanYourTV is an open-source project for reducing bloat and replacing the default home screen on Android TV and Google TV devices over Wi‑Fi. It uses Android Debug Bridge (ADB) after the user enables developer and network debugging on the TV. The project disables manufacturer telemetry, advertising services, sponsored content rows and unwanted preinstalled packages with pm disable-user; it does not uninstall apps, require root access, flash firmware or use a cable.
The recommended setup uses a coding assistant, although the same process can be performed manually. A computer must share the TV’s network and have Python 3, JDK 17–22 and Android SDK platform 34/build-tools installed. The assistant or scripts:
1. Back up installed packages and settings.
2. Discover the TV’s software and ask which apps or features should remain.
3. Apply a model-specific debloat list.
4. Build and install the CleanYourTV launcher.
5. Verify the result with TV screenshots.
The launcher provides an Apple TV-inspired interface with a dark background, customizable dock, app grid, focused-tile effects, HDMI/input controls, network and settings buttons, clock, date, themes and an optional clock screensaver. It is a small native Java app designed for TVs with at least Android 8.0, requires no network permission or background services, and supports configuration, app libraries, tile reordering, module cards and multiple languages.
Android TV and Google TV are fully supported. Fire TV supports only the debloating portion, with limitations on some models. Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, Roku, Vizio and Hisense VIDAA are not supported because they lack the required ADB functionality. The repository includes tested lists for hundreds of models and brands, while unsupported models can be discovered and added by contributors.
Every change can be reversed using the recorded restore state, which re-enables packages and returns the original Home component. Firmware updates may restore disabled packages and the stock launcher, requiring the cleanup to be applied again.
